McCain Supporters On Hand To Disrupt DNC Energy Policy Event

By Timothy B. Hurst

At a Tuesday morning event to announce a strategy for American Energy Independence through renewable energy, mass transit and green infrastructure, House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) were interrupted by about 20 John McCain supporters chanting “Drill here, drill now.”

“What you see before you are the handmaidens of big oil,” Pelosi said. “These drill-now people reflect the goals of the people in the White House.”

Also on hand to announce the strategy were Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) and U.S. Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO).

Union Station in Denver seemed an appropriate backdrop for an event to announce this broad strategy. The Denver train station is at the beginning of a transformational rebirth as the urban hub of Colorado’s new transportation infrastructure. The outdoor setting event certainly made it possible for the protesters to get involved.
