10 Women Who Changed the Environmental Movement Forever

April 22 marked the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and we want to recognize some of the leaders and thinkers who have had a profound impact on environmentalism as we know it. A couple of days ago, we shared a list of 10 men who have played critical roles in shaping the modern environmental movement. Today, we're looking at 10 women who have done the same.

During much of the 20th century, environmental activism was closely tied to feminism. Since then, many strong women have been at the forefront of environmentalism. Whether advocating animal rights or raising awareness about toxins in our environment, these women have had a powerful impact on the environmental movement.
