Majora Carter
A strong advocate for environmental and social justice, Majora Carter fought to keep a new waste facility from opening in her South Bronx neighborhood. The facility would have been the second of its kind in this underprivileged area, and it would have doubled the amount of waste coming in. After defeating that campaign, she founded Sustainable South Bronx and its Green the Ghetto movement which focuses on "delivering integrated economic and environmental solutions through innovative job training, public advocacy and education programs."
