Twitter King: Stephen Colbert Celebrates Most Retweeted Tweet of 2010

Stephen Colbert's June 16 Tweet about a new oil spill-inspired word for Tweet (gurgle), has been named the most Retweeted Tweet of 2010. In classic Colbert style, the faux-pundit did some quality gloating on tonight's show. "It's official! I won twitter! I harpooned the Fail Whale. Tonight, we dine on Kutcher!" Colbert hooted. On hand to award Colbert the first-ever "Golden Tweet" was Twitter co-founder Biz Stone (See video below).

Colbert, who has developed a strong relationship with members of another social media community, Reddit, has 1.9 million followers on Twitter and only follows back—get this—0 people.

Would you expect any different?

Note: After a little digging, I discovered that I retweeted Colbert soon after he posted on June 16. Therefore, I'm going to tell myself I had something to do with the tweet's wild popularity; whether I did or not, you can still follow me.
