The State of the Union and the State of American Energy
Besides who is sitting with whom and on which side of the aisle, the three biggest themes of tonight’s State of the Union will likely be jobs, jobs and jobs. And while I’m not expecting the level of focus on clean energy and climate as we’ve seen from President Obama in the past, there will likely be some discussion of energy policy, especially as it pertains to jobs and economic growth.

There are probably a lot of things the U.S. government is wasting money on. Subsidies for fossil fuel companies, excessive spending on military weapons, crop subsidies, and corporate welfare are a few things that come to mind. However, spending on clean energy and public transportation pay off and these are not the areas where we need to cut government spending. I would say, on the contrary, this is where we need to increase spending.
