Michael Pollan has been key in the real food movement. He's written several books on the industrialization of our food, including the best sellers Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Food. Pollan has had a huge impact on how folks in the U.S. think about food and choose fresh, organic options over highly processed foodstuffs.
